The Art of Racing in the Rain

Hubs and I watched this movie, and wow did I cry! This movie was so so good! I really am not sure what I expected with this movie, but I did not expect to cry as much as I did! I thought this movie was about a man and his dog, and of course racing. And it was, but it was so much more!

This movie pulled at every heart string. This movie is about love, loss, grief, faith and perseverance. It is an amazing story, and the movie is so well done. Milo Ventimiglia does a great job! The dog tells a lot of the story throughout the movie, but it makes sense. It isn’t cheesy or weird that the dog is talking. The dog is telling his own story, but knows he cannot talk to humans or anything.

I don’t even know how to talk about this movie without giving anything away. It is an emotional story, so be prepared!

It is based on a book, but I am not sure I want to read it. The movie was so amazing, and I read a few things are different in the movie. I don’t want the book to ruin how I feel about the movie, and it might based on the things that are different. Maybe down the road, but for now, I’m not sure I’m ready for it!

If Only I Could Tell You

I finished reading If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman and it was a great book! I really enjoyed reading this story. I was very impressed!

Initially I was a little confused. The book bounced between three characters, and different time periods too. And for some reason, I confused two of the characters – they are estranged sisters. And I knew who they were, I just couldn’t always connect the right one. One was upset with the other, and sometimes I forgot which one was the one who hated her sister, and which one didn’t understand why her sister hated her. I’m not sure why I struggled with this, but for some reason I did.

Once I really figured out which sister was which, the book took a turn and I was so engrossed. I could not put it down! New little hints or pieces of information kept dropping, and I was so intrigued. The story was so interesting and I Just had to keep reading!

The story was so good, and it unfolded beautifully! Definitely recommend this book, its a great one! You can find it on Amazon here.

The Invisible Man

I honestly am loving watching movie theater movies at home! I know this whole situation is terrible, but I always try to find the good any situation, and I think there are some changes that will come out of this that will be positive. And if one of them is releasing movies to rent right away, I am all about it!

I wanted to see The Invisible Man as soon as I saw the preview, but hubs wasn’t super excited about it. He says if he had the ability to be invisible, he’s going to do something much greater than annoying his wife. As is wife, I can appreciate that… but I still thought the movie looked good!

Once we could watch it from the comfort of our couch, he had no excuse! And we both really liked it, very good movie! Elizabeth Moss plays Ceclilia, she’s in a bad marriage and escapes a bad situation. Once she does, her husband turns up dead.

When strange things start happening, she starts to question if her husband is dead. Most people think she’s going crazy, but she’s confident her husband is alive. He’s a tech genius and she’s certain he figured out how to become invisible.

It is a thriller, and I think done very well. The prices of new movies are more than standard movies, but I assume they will eventually go down. I enjoyed this movie, and would recommend it!

The Way Back

I always love a good basketball movie, so of course I had to go see The Way Back! We missed our chance in the theater, so once it was available to rent I wanted to watch it right away!

Ben Affleck plays a struggling man, who was a great high school basketball player. When he’s approached to coach the team, he initially has no interest. He is at a tough point in his life and thinks this is the last thing he needs.

He of course takes the job. He takes on coaching a not so great team, some of them are struggling in their personal lives as well. The team starts to bring him around, and start to improve a little as well!

It is a very good movie. Hubs says better than he was expecting… because he doesn’t have a love for basketball movies like I do! I really like the way the story unfolds, and the movie is made very well. Definitely worth watching, especially if you are staying home right now!

Lost Girls

I watched the new Netflix original movie, Lost Girls. It is based on the book, also titled Lost Girls, which is based on a true story. The books is written by a journalist that covered the story at the time it happened.

The movie was very good, hubs and I both enjoyed it. The story is a sad one, but the movie was very well made. We love true crime, and this movie was no exception!

When Mari’s oldest daughter does not show up for dinner, she reports her missing. When she doesn’t feel like the police are taking her daughter’s case seriously, she does what she needs to do to make them.

In looking for her daughter, they find several bodies. They suspect a serial killer, and is quickly labeled the Long Island Serial Killer. She stands up for her daughter in every way she can, seeking the truth.

I am undecided if I want to read the book. I am not sure it will offer more than the movie, but it is possible. Since it is a true story, I can’t imagine they changed the major stuff, but I may give it a shot. If interested, you can find it on Amazon here.

If you enjoy true crime, I definitely recommend this movie!

Daring to Fall

I found Daring to Fall by Shannon Stults free on Kindle, and thought it sounded good. I had just finished a book and decided to jump right in, and I am so glad I did! This book was so good!

I noticed right away it is listed as a series, but obvious all the books in the series are about different people. This one was listed as the second book, so I took a risk and hoped the books in the series are connected through characters, but not stories.

This book started out confusing to me, it took me a few chapters to realize two stories were being told. I thought I caught a mistake, but quickly realized I was the one who made a mistake. And once I figured that out (very early on) I was so engrossed. I read this book in one day, and could not out it down.

The story was so so good. It made me laugh, and cry. I cried a lot in this book, the story was so well written and so emotional at times.

Harper is returning home after a few years. She hasn’t been home in a while after a bad failed relationship. But when her sister needs her, she doesn’t have a choice but to face what she left behind.

She feels she’s matured in the time she was away, and hopes to start fresh and make a friendship with her ex. The more their paths cross, the more she’s not sure she can be just friends with him.

I cannot wait to read the other two books in this series, and will keep an eye on this author! You can find this book on Amazon here. It is currently free, but the other two books are not. The whole series can be found here.

The Perfect Wife

I just finished reading The Perfect Wife by Blake Pierce. The book is a suspense thriller, and it had been a while since I had read a good thriller. So when I stumbled upon it, I figured why not!

The book is good, not great. The story seems rushed a some points, but overall a good plot. I liked it, but it also took me a while to read. It is not a can’t put down book!

Jessie Hunt is finishing up a degree in criminal profiling when he husband gets transferred to a new city. They move, since it is not too far and she’ll be able to commute for the short amount of time she still has left. Once they get settled into their new lives, she is feeling like things are not right.

She cannot pin exactly what is off, but she knows something is. She cannot relate to their new “friends” and she seems to be doing too well in school.

The story unfolds very well. I did enjoy reading it. When I realized it it was a series, I did not immediately buy the next book. If it had been free, I probably would have… but with my to read list so long right now, I just cannot justify it. I may in the future… but not sure. I would be interested in other free books by this author.

If interested, you can find on Amazon here.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette

I finally watched the movie Where’d You Go, Bernadette… and I liked it more than the book! I feel weird even saying that, but it is true! The story is right in line with the book, they did an excellent job! The writing was all over the place and very confusing in the book, and in the movie the component was removed.

I understood the storyline much better in the movie, and I was able to enjoy it because I didn’t spend all my time confused! I liked the story when reading the book, I was just able to follow and understand better in the movie!

It is a good movie, not the best movie ever. But if you are searching for something it is worth a watch! It is currently available on Hulu!

All the Bright Places

I watched All the Bright Places on Netflix, and wow it was a good movie! I had not heard of it, or the book… just stumbled upon it on Netflix. So you already know the book is added to my list! The movie is set in Indiana, which makes me love it even more!

This movie is about two teenagers that are going through really hard times in their lives. They find each other at an unexpected moment, and when they pair up together on a school project, they both end up being really good for each other.

I am very excited to read the book, and I really enjoyed the movie. I definitely recommend this movie! It is sweet, funny and emotional. Elle Fanning and Justice Smith play the main characters, and I really like them both. They both did a great job!

High school is hard sometimes, and when you have added things outside of the normal drama, it is really hard. Violet and Finch lean on each other, and have a little help from friends and family.

This is a great movie, I definitely recommend it!

Looking for Alaska

Hulu made a series based off of the book, Looking for Alaska by John Green. I’m not sure how I did not know about this, it released in Oct. 2019! It has been a while since I read the book, and I love all things by John Green so I started this series immediately!

It puts a little spin the book, but from what I remember it is pretty consistent. The characters and the theme, all in line with the book. The series is 8 episodes, and there is going to be a second season! I am really excited to see what happens next!

The show is about a group of high schoolers, at a boarding school I guess you call it. Most of them are the scholarship winners and aren’t exactly the popular kids. They always have each others back though, and have a sort of prank war going with the popular kids.

I am really curious to see how the next season goes! I didn’t recognize any of the characters, but I think they are all perfect for their roles! They did an amazing job. I kind of want to read the book again… but my to read list is so long right now, I cannot justify re-reading books! If you have Hulu, definitely worth checking out!
